Pit stop 1969 US 1/2 sht - 28"X22" Fine £35
Notes: Grant Willard (Brian Donlevy) sponsors drivers in a "new" form of race car driving called The Figure Eight. The black and white photography is excellent, there is a long, almost dreamlike sequence of dragster cars making artful figures in the sand dunes. The soundtrack is fantastic and a good early example of heavy rock music. This is an artful portrait of American provincial youth just before the hippy movement started. This poster is from the film's first release. N.B. this is a rare unfolded example.

Propaganda - Keep Calm and Carry On Original Vintage Movie Poster
Title Year Nominal size Condition Price
Propaganda - Keep Calm and Carry On 1939 UK DC - 20" x 30" Near Mint £9,995
Notes: This is a very rare and important piece of British history, printed in 1939 when the threat of invasion by the all conquering Nazis was a very real possibility. This design was printed in secret and intended for distribution only if the Germans landed on British soil. Thankfully this never happened and, like all paper in the 1940's, stocks were taken from storage, pulped and recycled in the austerity years after the war. It was almost completely forgotten until one was rediscovered in 2000 by the owner of a bookshop, whereupon the design became the centre of a worldwide marketing phenomenon, appearing on everything from mugs to T-shirts. There were believed to be only two survivors until a stash of fifteen appeared on the BBC Antiques Roadshow in 2012 and six more appeared from another significant estate find of a hoard of wartime posters in 2014. They remain incredibly rare with under forty known examples in the world. Undoubtedly the most poignant of any wartime poster in British history, it has recently also become one of the most iconic motivational themes of all time and is consequently increasingly sought after. Rolled in superb condition.

Notes: In 1960, air travel was still the strict preserve of the very wealthy - the 'Jet Set' - and the ability to show a film en route to an exotic destination was impossibly glamorous and certainly something to shout about. This was much more than just an ad for a film, it was saying that Air France were supremely stylish showing a film about the arctic while flying above it. Aside from this, Savage Innocents was a memorable and important film for many reasons, not least because this was the most accurate depiction of Inuit culture to have come out of Hollywood to date. Bob Dylan actually wrote a song about it after seeing it. An incredibly rare UK release from 1960.

Sea Fury (original artwork) Original Vintage Movie Poster
Title Year Nominal size Condition Price
Sea Fury (original artwork) 1958 approx 10.5" x 8" Near Mint £295
Notes: A unique and original artwork for the UK film poster for Sea Fury (1958). This is an early layout proposal by leading poster artist Eric Pulford who ran his own studio within the Downton Agency in London in what was the golden era for British film poster art. Original artwork like this is incredibly rare as they were routinely destroyed after use. This is especially interesting as it features a hitherto unkown execution that never went into production, although Eric did design the final version as well. This particular item was saved by one of the messenger boys whose job it was to ferry artwork around between artist, agency and film studio 50 years ago. He has kept it until now and is happy not only to guarantee the provenance but also to provide a little history describing his time there.
