Hustler Original Vintage Movie Poster
Title Year Nominal size Condition Price
Hustler 1961 US 1 sht - 27"x41" Very Good £395
Notes: They called him Fast Eddie... Paul Newmans performance as the pool hall hustler is legendary, as is the film which won two oscars. This is one of the rare re-release posters that is actually more sought after and more valuable than the original 1961 release because of its iconic design. Folded as issued, this particular poster has a print flaw in which some of the ink was transferred from one part of the poster to another during the folding process and, although still quite presentable, it has been substantially marked down. Folded from the 1964 re-release of The Hustler.

Ingagi Original Vintage Movie Poster
Title Year Nominal size Condition Price
Ingagi 1931 German - 37" x 55" Fine on linen £3,450
Notes: For movie buffs, Ingagi holds a very special place in film history. In the pre-Hays Code days of 1930 it was promoted on the basis that it used real documentary footage of Sir Hubert Winstead's expedition to Africa, including footage of a woman being dragged into the Congo Jungle by a gorilla for sex. In reality, it was made on a Hollywood back lot with stock footage sprinkled throughout, well known Hollywood extras as the Congolese girl and the "Wild Ape", local children were cast as the "pygmies" and the English explorer never existed. When the distributors were threatened with lawsuits, they withdrew the film from mainstream circulation and destroyed all the advertising material. However the ensuing notoriety ensured that it became a massive hit in the underground exploitation circuit generating higher revenues than any mainstream film of that year. So successful was it that a small film studio called RKO decided to make another exploitation movie featuring the love of an ape for a woman - the film was King Kong and RKO went on to become one of the biggest film studios in the world. This is an incredibly rare survivor from the first and only German release in 1931 with artwork by Lapiner. Quite possibly the only one in existence, it is a significant find. It has had light retouching to the folds only and looks spectacular.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers 1956 US 3 sht - 41" X 81" Fine on linen £1,695
Notes: Rare large format poster, linen backed and ready to frame. This was far, far more than just a horror thriller, although it was certainly superb in that respect. Released in the 1956 at the height of the McCarthy era of communist paranoia and false persecution, it was also a sharply crafted allegory of everything that was wrong with conformist America. A landmark film. This is from the first release in the USA, linen backed in superb condition with bright colours and minor retouching only.

Notes: After obtaining the Universal library of films in the late 1940s, Realart did a bang up job of promoting the classics of the 1930s. This colorful one sheet from the 1951 US re-release is an excellent example. It's on a great many want lists for obvious reasons. The colors and images are great fun and pulled more patrons into the theatres than most of the first-runs in the other theatres! It has minor airbrushing to the lower edge which has resulted in the loss of a few letters of the very fine print in the lower left corner so 'Cinemato' now reads 'mato'. Another reason is the fact that this is one of the most influential and important films in the history of the motion picture industry. Finally, the artwork is simply stunning. In simple terms, this film changed everything. This is a super rare 32 page film program from the UK Premiere at London's Marble Arch Pavilion on March 21st 1927. It is full of information related to the film including actor interviews, special effects secrets and a budget breakdown. This is the quintessential insider's guide to the film directly from UFA. This has survived very well with no fading of the colours on the cover and no damage to any of the inside pages and only very light spine wear. There is a small amount of foxing (tiny rust coloured spots) on the back cover but it's otherwise in superb condition.
