Carry on Cleo (court exhibit) Original Vintage Movie Poster
Title Year Nominal size Condition Price
Carry on Cleo (court exhibit) 1964 UK quad - 40"x30" Very Good on linen £6,995
Notes: This is the actual poster used as an exhibit in the court case brought by 20th Century Fox against the Carry on team at Anglo Amalgamated for plagiarism. The original design for 1964 Carry on Cleo was essentially a direct copy of the poster design for the 1963 blockbuster, Cleopatra, with the faces of Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton and Rex Harrison swapped for those of the Carry On gang. A great gag at the time but the US studio was not so amused and sued. Not surprisingly, the case was lost and all copies of the poster were duly pulped with the very small number that survived now becoming the holy grail for serious Carry On fans. This particular poster is not only one of those original survivors, it is also one of two posters used as exhibits in court at the trial itself and comes to us from the estate sale of the barrister involved (provenance provided). Mounted onto hardboard for the trial, it was only glued around the edges and corners, and, although it did suffer some tears in the central area, the colours are still bright. It has now been linen backed and restored after many years in the store cupboard.

Clockwork Orange (int'l) Original Vintage Movie Poster
Title Year Nominal size Condition Price
Clockwork Orange (int'l) 1972 US 1 sht - 27"X41" Near Mint £165
Notes: Nominated for 4 oscars, Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange gained notoriety because he insisted that it was withdrawn from public viewing in the UK due to the extreme violence. As the press releases said, it was the story of a young man whose primary interests were rape and Beethoven. Note that this poster is an international style poster (i.e. without a US rating) from the first release in 1972. There were three styles in the USA – the X certificate and international style were printed in early 1972, when the film was first released, and are identical apart from the US rating. The R certificate style was printed later in the same year when the film was cut to reach wider audiences. This is an international style poster from the beginning of the first release., folded as issued.

Dark Knight (DS advance) Original Vintage Movie Poster
Title Year Nominal size Condition Price
Dark Knight (DS advance) 2008 US 1 sht - 27"X40" Near Mint £325
Notes: For many, The Dark Knight is the best of the Batman movies with some genuine darkness in the characterisation and storyline. Heath Ledger died shortly afterwards and won a posthumous Oscar for his role as the Joker. This fact, the stunning image and the fact that the 'why so serious?' poster was withdrawn shortly after the film was released (in favour of one featuring Batman), make this design particularly sought after. This rarity has created a market for bootleg versions, though, and there are far more fakes than genuine posters around. This item is guaranteed to be an original, studio issued, double-sided poster intended for cinema use, rolled as issued.

Forbidden planet Original Vintage Movie Poster
Title Year Nominal size Condition Price
Forbidden planet 1956 Italian photobusta - 18" x 26" Fine/Near Mint on linen £475
Notes: Forbidden Planet is one of the most important sci-fi films of all time and this is the best Italian photobusta of the set of 8 issued for the 1956 first release. This one features Robby the Robot as well as the three key cast members. Photobustas were the Italian equivalent of lobby cards, featuring key scenes from the film and displayed in the cinema lobby. This one is in excellent condition with bright colour and no marks. Very close examination reveals that there are a few pinholes in the corners and top edge and there is evidence of a light fold down the centre but all these have been expertly retouched during linen backing and the poster now presents superbly well.

Funeral in Berlin 1967 US window card - 14"x22" Near Mint £65
Notes: Based on Len Deighton's novel, this sequel to "The Ipcress File" features Michael Caine again as the the anti-James Bond British spy, Harry Palmer. Palmer wears thick glasses, dresses in a cheap rain-coat, has a cockney-accent, and cultivates an aura of being not too bright. Of course, he is the only one who can keep track of the double-, triple-, and quadruple crosses. A very superior movie. This is a small format poster printed on heavier card stock with the top part left blank to allow the local cinema owner to write their own messages. It is from the film's first release. This poster will be sent out rolled but a frame is available at no extra charge if the buyer wishes to pick up in person from London.
